The Christmas classic, Miracle on 34th Street, centers on the character of Kris Kringle, a man who forces others to face their beliefs and that there is good in the world through his role as Santa. There is one line spoken by Kringle, where he states, “If you can’t believe, if you can’t accept anything on faith, then you are doomed for a life dominated by doubt.”
Beloved, you show daily that you live a life of faith. You have faith to transfer your hard-earned money electronically to others, even to causes that are unfamiliar to you; you have faith in your hairstylist to change your hair color through a multi-stage bleaching process from natural black to blonde; you have faith in your pharmacist to fill your prescription with the right pills, often without asking a single question; you have faith in the security of your home while announcing through social media your current situation is lounging on the beach in Aruba. The beauty and reality of your life is that your faith in God connects all that occurs, those hidden, unseen things that you undertake within your life, and this faith manifests all things to work out for your good!
As we move toward the new year, consider Matthew 21:21 (NIV) as a focus scripture, ‘Jesus replied, “Truly I tell you, if you have faith and do not doubt, not only can you do what was done to the fig tree, but also you can say to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and it will be done.’ No doubt, the life you live is all about faith. Stay strong in faith!
On behalf of the NoVAC Chaplains Council, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
