Do You Have Your Armor On?

January 4, 2026

Ephesians 6:10-18 MSG

And that about wraps it up. God is strong, and he wants you strong. So take everything the Master has set out for you, well-made weapons of the best materials. And put them to use so you will be able to stand up to everything the Devil throws your way. This is no weekend war that we’ll walk away from and forget about in a couple of hours. This is for keeps, a life-or-death fight to the finish against the Devil and all his angels.

Be prepared. You’re up against far more than you can handle on your own. Take all the help you can get, every weapon God has issued, so that when it’s all over but the shouting you’ll still be on your feet. Truth, righteousness, peace, faith, and salvation are more than words. Learn how to apply them. You’ll need them throughout your life. God’s Word is an indispensable weapon. In the same way, prayer is essential in this ongoing warfare. Pray hard and long. Pray for your brothers and sisters. Keep your eyes open. Keep each other’s spirits up so that no one falls behind or drops out.

Ephesians 6 describes the only armor in the world that is capable of withstanding the attacks that the enemy makes against God’s people. While stationed in Iraq in 2004 and Afghanistan in 2012-13, I knew that I faced dangers of many kinds, and death, even though I wore body armor. The armor could not protect me from most of the attacks the enemy sent using weapons and munitions; however, the armor might decrease my chances of death from some attacks.

Every time I traveled through those war-torn countries, I wore my Kevlar and vest with SAPI plates. I also clothed myself with the armor of God and trusted that he would protect me from all evil. God’s word reminds us to put on the armor of God and to fear not. God’s armor protects us as he promises in his word. In John 16:33, Jesus says it best: "In this world you will have trouble. But take heart; I have overcome the world.” He is our protector through the government shutdown, war, natural disasters, sickness, disease and financial deficit.

Prayer: Father God in the name of Jesus, I pray for the protection which you describe in Ephesians 6. Help me to be strong in you Lord. Help me to draw my strength from you. Holy Spirit, remind me to put on God’s whole armor that I may be able to successfully stand up against all the strategies and lies of the enemy. I am not wrestling against flesh and blood. My enemy is the devil. Help me to put on my armor when I am weary, wounded, and sad so that I can resist the devil knowing he will flee as your word says. Stay with me Lord as I tighten the belt of truth around my sides. Clothe me with your breastplate of integrity and help me to be in right standing with You Lord. Help me to cover my feet as I prepare to face the enemy with firm-footed stability. Help me to be victorious Lord in every battle. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.
