A Purpose-Filled Life on Earth

Ephesians 5:15-17: 15
Look carefully then how you walk! Live purposefully, worthily, and accurately, not as the unwise and witless, but as wise (sensible, intelligent people), 16 Making the very most of the time [buying up each opportunity], because the days are evil. 17 Therefore, do not be vague, thoughtless, and foolish, but understanding and firmly grasping what the will of the Lord is.
Grammy Award winner, Yolanda Adams, encouraged radio listeners to “live their lives on purpose.” The book, “The Purpose Driven Life, by Pastor Rick Warren, provides 40 days of devotions to lead readers to live purposefully. Pastor Warren explains that individuals focused on a purpose-filled life accept that God created them to fill a unique role in the world; therefore, they strive to live in accordance with their understanding of their destiny in God.
Ephesians 5 also admonishes us to live purposefully. In life, we choose every day how we will spend each minute, hour, and day. We can choose to live a life that makes a difference for others and not just ourselves. We can also choose selfishly to live a life which is focused on me, myself, and I. The latter choice is unwise and even foolish, because no woman is an island; our lives are interwoven with those around us. Every action we take has ripple effects that impact others. I urge you to seize every opportunity to live “intelligently,” “sensibly,” and intentionally in a way that is pleasing to God.
Prayer: Father God in the name of Jesus, I pray Ephesians 5. Help me be careful how I walk. Help me to live purposefully, worthily, and consciously, not as the unwise and witless, but as wise, sensible, and intelligent. Help me make choices that benefit others. Help me make the most of my time on this earth. Allow me to seize every opportunity to fulfill my kingdom-purpose so that you are glorified through my actions. Teach me to understand and firmly grasp your will for my life, Lord. Thank you for the love that you have for us. I give you the glory, honor, and praise, in Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
