Call to Serve

Under the banner of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, our Founders courageously participated in their first public act of social action—the 1913 Woman Suffrage Procession in Washington, D.C. Their presence reflected a commitment to advocacy, civic engagement, and the pursuit of equity that remains deeply rooted in who we are today.

More than a century later, We are Still True to This.

Our work continues because the responsibility to educate, engage, advocate, and mobilize our communities is just as important today. This summer, I was proud to stand alongside my NoVAC Sorors as we put our commitment to social action into motion.

We began with both in-person and virtual voter registration training, equipping Sorors with the knowledge and tools to support voter engagement throughout our communities. We then collaborated with the League of Women Voters on a postcard outreach initiative designed to encourage inconsistent voters in our area to make their voices heard at the ballot box.

And we did not stop there.

Answering the call of our Sorority leadership, NoVAC chartered a bus and traveled together to participate in activities commemorating the 63rd anniversary of the March on Washington. We showed up—not simply as observers of history, but as women committed to carrying its unfinished work forward.

Through the strong leadership of our Social Action Chair, Adrienne Harris, and Co-Chairs, Christina Powell and Tiffany Lowder, we are continuing to amplify the call of Delta DECIDES and challenging every Soror to register at least two people to vote or assist by checking their voter registration status.

This is an achievable goal—and we are developing some creative and engaging ways to help every Soror answer the challenge!

Our Founders marched. Generations of Deltas advocated. And now, it is our turn to continue moving the work forward.
