YEARS SERVED:

  1963-1965

NOTABLE PROFESSIONAL ACCOMPLISHMENTS:

Soror Grayson was a Fairfax County elementary school teacher at Northern Virginia’s James Lee Elementary School and Franklin Elementary School for nearly 20 years. She was also a Charter member of the Alexandria Alumnae Chapter, the 251st chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. on May 17, 1959.

NOTABLE ACCOMPLISHMENTS AS CHAPTER PRESIDENT:

Under her administration, NoVAC attended and participated in the 50th anniversary celebration of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. in Washington, DC. One of the highlights of this event was the keynote address by President John F. Kennedy. The chapter also celebrated its 5th anniversary.

NEW PROGRAMS OR INITIATIVES IMPLEMENTED:

The chapter began to focus on the needs of the elderly and adopted the Manassas Home for the Aged as its outreach project. A scholarship program was put into place awarding students with funds to pay their college tuition during all four years.

PRESIDENTIAL NUGGET TO IMPART ON NOVAC:

Soror Grayson was the most quiet and cooperative of Sorors until some unsisterly behavior required her to take the chapter to task by sharing her strong sense of what is ethical and right in the behavior of Deltas toward each other. She demanded excellence to ensure equality of opportunity for all people.
