n 1976, the chapter initiated 17 new members.

With membership growth and geographical expansion, it became necessary to change the chartered boundary. A new charter establishing the new name, Northern Virginia Alumnae Chapter, was issued on January 21, 1977. The chapter’s first acknowledgement of public support for its fundraising activities was in 1976 when 1,200 guests were entertained by chapter members with the presentation of In Pursuit of a Dream, a dramatic presentation depicting Delta ideals.

NEW PROGRAMS OR INITIATIVES IMPLEMENTED:

In 1975, the chapter played a major part in redirecting the role of African Americans in film by helping to sponsor the premiere of “Count Down at Kusini,” a feature film starring Ossie Davis and Ruby Dee.

The chapter also hosted a May Week Awards Reception – “Women in Community Service.”
