NOTABLE PROFESSIONAL ACCOMPLISHMENTS:

 Soror Miller was a teacher who focused on early childhood education and was one of the first teachers in Alexandria to teach in a racially integrated kindergarten class. Soror Miller served as a liaison between Alexandria Public Schools and the new Northern Virginia Community College. She also served as head of the early childhood program at the Northern Virginia Community College for 37 years. She was also a Charter member of the Alexandria Alumnae Chapter, the 251st chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. on May 17, 1959. 

 

NOTABLE ACCOMPLISHMENTS AS CHAPTER PRESIDENT:

  Notably, Soror Miller was the first-ever chapter president of NoVAC and the first president to serve two consecutive terms. Also, under her administration, the chapter was represented for the first time at the 26th national convention in Chicago where the directive was given to create the South Atlantic Region. The chapter also sponsored an artist concert, a Jabberwock, a talent show in cooperation with other civic and fraternal clubs, and a Christmas party for the community’s underprivileged children. 

NEW PROGRAMS OR INITIATIVES IMPLEMENTED:

  NoVAC, along with Deltas across the nation, raised money to provide financial support to end segregation in public schools.
