NOTABLE PROFESSIONAL ACCOMPLISHMENTS:

 Soror Mitchell retired from a career with the Library of Congress as the Science Administrator and the highest paid Black employee. She was also “Of Counsel” to Leftwich, Moore & Douglas, the largest Black law firm in the United States. She served as Special Assistant to Delegate Gloria Lawlah in the Maryland State Legislature and worked as a campaign worker in her 1990 election to the State Senate. In 1976, she was presented with the Distinguished Alumni Award by American University for her contribution in the field of computer technology. She also opened her own jewelry business. 

 

NOTABLE ACCOMPLISHMENTS AS CHAPTER PRESIDENT:

 In 1972, the chapter initiated nine new members. Also, a major concern was whether the Alexandria Alumnae Chapter should be incorporated into the Eastern Region. 

 

NEW PROGRAMS OR INITIATIVES IMPLEMENTED:

  During this administration, the chapter continued a number of local and national initiatives such as Teen Lift, RIF, and an emphasis on international focus. The chapter also focused on health careers and a conference for guidance counselors was convened to expose them to various health careers.
