YEARS SERVED:

   1983-1985

NOTABLE PROFESSIONAL ACCOMPLISHMENTS:

Soror Jones was an elementary school teacher in the Washington, DC public school system for over 30 years.

NOTABLE ACCOMPLISHMENTS AS CHAPTER PRESIDENT:

Under Soror Jones’ leadership, the first publication of the community newsletter was published on November 2, 1984. Copies were sent to area Deltas, friends of Delta, local advocacy groups, local government officials, and regional and national officers. It was planned for publication twice a year—in the fall and in the spring. NoVAC also launched the return of Delta Dynamics, the chapter’s internal newsletter. NoVAC also celebrated its 25th Anniversary which included a salute to Blacks in key local government positions. Also, the chapter was awarded a certificate in recognition of participation in the Voter Registration Campaign conducted by the Alexandria Forum and it continued to nurture and monitor the growth of Omicron Rho.

NEW PROGRAMS OR INITIATIVES IMPLEMENTED:

The 25th Anniversary building fund campaign was launched. A 4- to 6-year plan was in place to raise scholarship funds. Fundraising activities were concentrated on many smaller projects such as the ‘60s/’70s disco at the Navy Yard NCO Club and a gospel night featuring Whitley Phipp. A social awareness program was hosted by the chapter in the fall of 1984; a Salute to Women of Northern Virginia.
