Please accept my warmest welcome to the official website of the Northern Virginia Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. a sisterhood of over 200 women dedicated to community service and scholarship. For fifty years the Northern Virginia Alumnae Chapter has served our community through programs for children, youth, families and seniors.
Over the years, we have offered public forums about the importance of maintaining good health, registering to vote and the dangers of predatory lending. More than $100,000 has been given to youth to assist them in achieving their dream of a college education. Our programs with youth have been designed to help young people achieve their potential through activities that offer a listening ear, helping heart and encouragement. We remain enthusiastically engaged in supporting the organization’s national goals and implementing them in our local community. In realizing its mission, Delta Sigma Theta provides an extensive array of public service through its Five-Point Program Thrust:
1. Physical and Mental Health
2. Educational Development
3. Economic Development
4. International Awareness and Involvement
5. Political Awareness and Involvement
Last year we were honored and humbled to receive, with our partner Hopkins House in Alexandria, an award from the U.S. Department of Education for being one of 16 model Reading Is Fundamental (RIF) programs in the United States. Within our sorority we have also been recognized. In 2007, Northern Virginia Alumnae Chapter received the South Atlantic Region's Chapter of the Year Award.
The work we have done would not have been possible without the amazing partners and members we have and the generous support of the community. You have made it possible for us to be a strong, enduring and valuable resource to the citizens of the Northern Virginia Community since 1959. We commit to continuing the legacy of service, excellence and partnership that have been the hallmark of our organization. What a joy and privilege it is to serve!
With appreciation,
Debbie
