President's Message

On behalf of over 200 dedicated servant leaders, welcome to the web site of the Northern Virginia Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.

Founded in 1959, the Northern Virginia Chapter (NoVAC) is a local chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc In 2009, NoVAC will celebrate 50 years of service to Northern Virginia communities, specifically, Arlington County, Alexandria, Falls Church and Fairfax City. NoVAC remains enthusiastically engaged in supporting the organization’s national goals and implementing them in our local community. In realizing its mission, Delta Sigma Theta provides an extensive array of public service through its Five-Point Program Thrust:

1. Physical and Mental Health
2. Educational Development
3. Economic Development
4. International Awareness and Involvement
5. Political Awareness and Involvement

For almost 50 years, the Northern Virginia Alumnae Chapter has engaged in activities and programs to support these thrusts through programs and activities such as:

• Providing scholarship funds to deserving high school students attending college
• Conducting community public education events on issues such as health, voter education, predatory lending and increasing financial stability
• Mentoring young girls and young women through programs designed to prevent teenage pregnancy, to build self-esteem, to explore career opportunities and to help them make wise life choices.
• Distributing hundreds of free books annually through a partnership with Reading is Fundamental (RIF) to promote reading and improved literacy. In 2008, this program was nationally recognized as one of the sixteen best programs in the nation.
• Tutoring school-age children to assist them in passing standardized test in math and English.
• Participating in the City of Alexandria’s Adopt a Block Program which involves a “clean-up” service project
• Providing clothing, school supplies, personal care items and toys to organizations in South Africa.

We hope you enjoy visiting our site and thank you the community for your ongoing support of our programs. You make it possible for us to reach our goal to make a real difference in the lives of people in the Northern Virginia Community and beyond.

With appreciation,
